For those of you who didn’t know Bass Lake in Oakhurst California is open for business.
Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful but there is so much to do even if Rona still has a lot of businesses closed down. If you are looking for a getaway from home this might just be the place for you!
My husband and I decided to load up the Rv/5th wheel and take the drive up to Oakhurst a little tucked away town surrounded by forest and decorated with cutesy storefronts.
We were pleasantly surprised to see the people exercising their rights and going about their lives. The boat rentals have opened up, as well as some stores and even some grab and go restaurants near the lake. Thankfully, the bathrooms were open too!
The lake is open for day use and even have some areas open for tent camping and RV camping. So if you are into that make sure to call ahead and grab yourself one of the few camping spots available during this time.
There are two rental shops here on the lake that you can take advantage of. Here you can rent a variety of boats, kayaks, jet skis, fishing boats, paddle-boats, and more! Yes! you can do all of that and more.
Some bigger boats for larger groups can be on the pricey side but, the smaller items like jet skis and fishing boats are reasonably priced. Below are the two different locations/rentals shops in case you would like to call ahead and book, which is highly recommended.
Bass lake is quite unique when it comes to fishing because Bass lake isn’t a natural lake at all! It’s man-made! Owned by none other than PG&E and the waters of the lake are even used to generate electricity!

Long story short every year the lake is stocked with fish! So there is guaranteed fish to catch year-around! so grab your fishing poles find a spot and go get your dinner!
In May the lake hosts a fishing tournament where specific fish are tagged and whoever finds the catch gets a hefty prize! This is one of many tournaments/events that is held through out the year. Take a moment to check if their are any events before you visit to see whats going on!
Bass lake offers free parking all around the lake as well as parking lots that you can use for a small donation of 10$ to keep the lake active and going. The lake is open year-round for fishing but make sure you have a valid fishing license on you at all times, because the department of fish and game is almost guaranteed to stop by and check for licensing.
Now that California is slowly reopening more stores surrounding the lake are begining to open, there is now access to pick up food, visit souvenirs shops, and more.
Bass lake is a perfect weekday getaway! On the weekend it may get a little packed for those who are social distancing, but during the week the lake is large enough and less active making it the perfect quarantine destination.
